If the thought of being in front of a camera makes you feel a little stiff, unsure, or like you suddenly forget what to do with your hands… you’re not alone.

In fact, almost every single person I photograph says some version of:

“I’m awkward in photos.”

And here’s the truth: you’re not awkward—you’re just not used to being photographed.

It’s Not Your Job to “Know What to Do”

One of the biggest misconceptions is that you’re supposed to show up already knowing how to pose.

That’s my job.

You don’t need to practice in the mirror or worry about getting it “right.” During your session, I’ll guide you the entire time with simple prompts and natural movement so nothing ever feels forced or overly posed.

Movement Changes Everything

The quickest way to feel natural?

Stop trying to be still.

Instead of holding a pose and wondering if you look okay, I’ll have you:

  • Walk
  • Spin
  • Fix your hair
  • Laugh mid-movement
  • Interact with the people you’re with

When you’re moving, you’re not overthinking—and that’s when the magic happens.

Focus on Connection, Not the Camera

The best photos don’t come from looking perfectly at the lens—they come from feeling something in the moment.

That might look like:

Laughing with your sister

Looking out at the ocean

A quiet, in-between moment

You don’t have to perform. You just have to be there.

You Don’t Have to Be “Photogenic”

Being photogenic isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something that naturally shows up when you’re comfortable.

And comfort comes from:

Being guided (you will be)

Not being rushed

Letting go of the idea of perfection

Some of the best images are the ones you didn’t even realize were being taken.

It’s Okay to Feel a Little Awkward at First

The beginning of every session is usually the most “unsure” part—and that’s completely normal.

Give yourself 10–15 minutes to settle in.

Once you realize you don’t have to be perfect, everything shifts.

Trust the Process

You don’t need to worry about angles, lighting, or what looks best—that’s all taken care of.

Your only job is to show up as yourself.

I’ll take care of the rest.
